I'll be speaking at EAC in New Orleans, facilitating a debate and "audience karaoke" on
"Is Enterprise Architecture over-reaching?"
The propositions for discussion:
- Business analysis and transformation too often fails when seen as externally driven, and EA will be no better received by business partners than any other brand of consultant.
- The true locus of business/IT alignment is in portfolio management and the alignment of IT portfolio management with enterprise architecture is mostly wishful thinking.
- SOA is simply far too technical and attempts to turn it into a form of business architecture are misguided.
Are these my points of view? Before you jump too far to conclusions, please consider that in formal debate and forensics, one must be able to debate either side of a question... at the very least, let's just say I have encountered these points of view... and am interested in how to debate them effectively. Advocating for them in front of a room full of enterprise architects would seem to be one efficient means of gathering material (if perhaps a spot uncomfortable). And if at the end of the day I myself am unconvinced...
