Food for thought:
Configuration Items and Events are mutually exclusive.
Events include Incidents, Problems, Changes, Projects, and Programs. They are managed in terms of their closure.
Configuration Items include Servers, Software, Applications, Databases, Queues, and Network Hardware (among many other things). They have an indefinite lifecycle.
Question: Is a Release a CI or an Event? (I use it as the latter...)
Second food for thought:
- The Service Catalog contains Service Offerings.
- The CMDB contains Service Instances.
IT Service Management is concerned with both Service Offerings and Instances.
